Blooket Play "How To" for Teachers! - Teaching Expertise (2024)

Online resources or websites are great tools for classroom games, reviews, and quizzes. Especially when so much of learning today is done remotely. Educational games on Blooket can also be utilized by students outside of class to review previous content or discover new information.

Blooket is a free web-based game platform that allows you as the teacher to create your own content or choose from a variety of content options they provide and present it to your students in a fun and interactive way.

Using Blooket as a teacher allows you to create vocabulary sets, trivia, and a variety of game options for your students.

So First Things First!

It’s time to create your account! You can sign up using your email address or through google. This game platform is 100% free and very user-friendly.

Once you have an account, it’s time to log in and get started!

Next, you’ll be taken to your dashboard page that asks if you wish to create your own set of questions or choose from options provided within the premade question sets.

On the left of the screen, you can also see tabs labeled “News” and “Shortcuts” with relevant content and useful tips/quick links to popular games.

You can also find and save games and other public question sets you like in the “Favorites” tab.

There is also a “Homework” tab where you can add or check homework you have assigned for your students.

If you are looking for inspiration or ideas you can choose the “Discover Sets” tab and peruse through a variety of topic themes with hundreds of premade question sets such as “Math Additions”, “Brain Teasers”, “Continents and Oceans”, and many more!

If you have content you wish to import yourself, click on the tab that says “Create a Set” and it will bring you to a template page where you can fill in the title, description, and images you desire for your set.

Now it’s time to add some questions. These are in multiple-choice format, with an easy-to-use layout where you can input which answer out of the 4 is correct. You can also set a time limit for each question to make it more challenging and add pictures to make it more interesting!

One of the great ways this website works for teachers is that all content created is available and free for other teachers. So once you finish and publish your set, it is added to the library and other teachers can discover and use it with their students!

Once you have finished your set of questions or have chosen a premade set, it’s time to specify the type of assignment you are creating. As a teacher, you will always choose the “Host” option since the “Solo” option is for students.

There are different game modes to choose from, and these have “Homework” or “Host” options depending on how you want to utilize the set.

Host

If you choose to host a game, this means your students will be interacting with the game at the same time, so a group game session. Essentially this is Blooket live where you can create competitive games and easily follow student participation. You can control whether this game is individual or in teams.

You can control the game details by allowing late joiners, randomizing student names, and specifying the number of questions. Students can participate in hosted games through the Blooket app on their smartphones or computers.

Homework

You can assign a review game for homework using the “HW” tab. This will take you to a page where you can set a due date/time and a goal. The goal is either a set amount of minutes for gameplay or a set amount of money earned in the game.

Now it’s time to generate and share the Game ID with your students. When your multiple-choice game is ready for use, Blooket will provide a number code you can give to your students for them to access the game mode.

You can use the “Student Engagement Portal” to check your students’ progress along the way and see how many correct answers they have.

Game Choices!

There is a variety of game mode options with fun arcade games and different ways to play and win!

One example: Tower Defense game mode is a classic game where students can build tower defense and factory stations as well as receive tokens for answering questions correctly. In this Blooket journey, there are a variety of blooks (including evil blooks) as well as monsters and cute avatars to make the playing field expansive and challenging.

These learning games are helpful and engaging for students using virtual study methods, especially now when a lot of recent schooling has had to switch to remote learning. Features such as randomizing points and auto-generating groups are helpful for classroom management and receiving useful feedback about students.

Student Perspective

Blooket is very easy for students to access and use in the classroom or at home. Once they have created an account all they need to do is input the game ID for the game or homework their teacher asked them to complete, add their nickname/icon, and get started!

Students can access Blooket on their own and play online games with their favorite modes in a variety of subjects. This type of learning through games for students is complex and engaging similar to other video games popular in today’s culture.

The option for reviewing games and homework for students allows them to choose how, what, and when to study making it more likely that they will!
