How many questions does it take to get 100 on IXL? ›

For most skills on IXL, students will have to complete a minimum of 28 questions to earn a SmartScore of 100.

Using the Questions Log

Once you have selected the desired skill and student, you can see a summary of the student's current progress through that skill, including their current SmartScore, questions answered, and time spent.

Grade level guide: 100 = 1st grade, 200 = 2nd grade, 300 = 3rd grade, 400 - 4th grade, 500 = 5th grade, 600 = 6th grade, 700 = 7th grade, 800 = 8th grade, and 900 = 9th grade. By clicking on the IXL image above or the word IXL, students will be forwarded to the log in page.

One of the few disadvantages of IXL is the lack of concept explanations before some lessons. Still, the reviews provided after each question make up for that, especially considering it's a quiz-based platform focused on practice.

It's calculated based on question difficulty, answer accuracy, and consistency. When your child is getting the hang of the concept, their SmartScore will increase, and their questions will get harder.

The Student Quiz Results report will show the number of questions they got correct, their score for the quiz, and the amount of time they spent on it. Below that you can review individual questions they answered, which display their answer and the correct answer.

Are IXL levels accurate? ›

IXL's Diagnostic is especially valuable because it provides insights for students and educators about students' knowledge levels in key strands of math and ELA. IXL's Diagnostic is a reliable, valid assessment that can be used in two ways to best meet students' and educators' needs.

An IXL Diagnostic level of 500 represents readiness to begin working on fifth-grade level skills. When a level is displayed as a circle with a star in it, your exact level has been revealed! Continue answering questions to pinpoint your overall levels, reading level, and exact level in every strand.

Lack of Personalization: Another issue with IXL is its one-size-fits-all approach. It does not consider individual student needs or different learning styles. As a result, learners who require additional support or those who excel in certain areas may feel frustrated or unchallenged respectively.

The reports were hard to read and didn't offer any real insight into each student's specific issues. I found myself spending more time trying to decipher the data than actually teaching. Overall, the entire experience was so overwhelming and disappointing that I had to reconsider how I used technology in the classroom.

IXL has a strong focus on math and language arts, while Khan Academy offers a wider range of subjects. Consider your learning style: If your child is a visual learner, then you may prefer Khan Academy's videos and articles. If your child is an auditory learner, then you may prefer IXL's games and quizzes.

A skill is mastered when the SmartScore reaches 100, but the number of questions it takes to master a skill varies with every student. To continuously motivate students, IXL recommends setting other practice milestones along the way to mastery. A score of 80 is proficient, and a score of 90 is considered excellent.

A student's diagnostic level represents their working grade level. So a level of 400 represents a readiness to start working on 4th-grade skills, and a level of 450 means the student is about halfway through the 4th-grade curriculum.

Here's how IXL defines each category: Mastered -- student has a SmartScore of 100. Proficiency -- student has a SmartScore of at least 80. Practiced -- student has answered at least 1 question and the SmartScore is less than 90.
